Three Simple Ways to Honor the Fall Equinox

Three Simple Ways to Honor the Fall Equinox

In the early hours of Sunday, September 22nd (Pacific Time), the Fall Equinox arrived, marking a moment of balance where day and night are equal in length.

Ancient cultures and earth-based traditions around the world have honored this seasonal transition as one of the most important times of year, where the activated, overflowing, extroverted vibration of summer begins to shift towards the introspective, simplified, slower-paced energy of winter.

(But it’s not winter just yet – we’ve got a whole season of pumpkin-spice lattes, autumn harvest, brilliant fall colors, and, of course, our favorite fall Cotton Flower styles!)

As modern humans who are devoted to living in harmony with the Earth, it can be deeply valuable and healing to honor this time of year in some way that feels authentic to each of us.

Even though the peak moment of the Equinox just passed, the week or so after is still a perfect time to work with its energy.

So how might we do that? Here are Three Simple Ways to Honor the Fall Equinox:

  1. Spend Time Connecting to Nature: Take a walk in a nature-filled place, perhaps one with trees or gardens. See if you can slow your thoughts to tune into being absolutely present with the plant and animal life around you. Acknowledge yourself as being interrelated and interdependent with them. Observe the colors, sounds, scents, and feel of this place – and yourself as a part of it.

  2. Create a Gratitude Ritual: You might like to take some special time to yourself and light a candle or incense, writing down or speaking aloud things you are grateful for in your life right now. If it feels true within you, you might also like to share your gratitude with others.

  3. Meditate and/or Journal: Take some time to tune in and reflect on the following questions: What is your relationship to letting go, change, and transition? How can self-care and meaningful relationships help you move through seasonal change with more support? What is out of balance in your life and how can you create more balance for yourself? What is leaving your life or simplifying so you can focus on what really matters most?

No matter how you choose to honor this seasonal transition, we hope you do so graced by the gifts of your own inner beauty and connection to your soul.
